As I said in my previous post, I made scarves and clutches for my mother’s birthday. This post is about the second set, in pale green and white.
The clutch was made exactly as I made my White Clutch, some time ago. Just as before, I added little beaded flowers, but in reverse colors.
For the lining, I used old pants and took advantage of an already sewn back pocket. There was not enough fabric around the pocket to cut the whole lining piece, so I simply cut around it.
Below are all the pieces I needed to make the clutch: two rectangles for the outside, two rectangles for the inside and the pocket.
I ironed the sides of the pocket, toward the back.
I positioned the pocket in the centre of the rectangle.
I sew along the two sides of the pocket.
If there is enough fabric around the pocket, you simply cut your rectangle. In the following picture, I folded back the flap, ironed it into place, cut the excess and removed the velcro with a seam riper.
And voilà, you have a pocket in your clutch that did not require much work.
My pdf tutorial to make such a clutch can be found here, with the added information about using old pants (and its pocket) to line the clutch.
For my mother’s birthday, I decided to make scarves and clutches. One set is the subject of this post. In fact, I made two sets–one for my mother and one for myself. To make those, I used a long skirt I have made a few years ago. I was not wearing it much and the fabric makes fabulous scarves and bags. They certainly add glamour to a pair of jeans.
The scarves were simply hemmed. I folded the edges twice, ironed and sew with a straight stitch.
I made the clutches exactly the same way I did my White Clutch. You can find my tutorial to make this clutch here. I added three wooden beads on each side of the zipper. My beads are the perfect match for the zippers’ color.
For the lining, I used fabric from old pants. The back pocket of the pants is now an inside pocket of a bag.
I cut away the flap and removed the velcro with a seam ripper. Making a pocket could not be easier.
