Tea in the Rose Garden for Valentine

I have made an other Tea in the Rose Garden mug rug. This one is a Valentine’s Day version. Perfect for this month of the year during which hearts hold a place of honor.tea-rose-garden-mug-rug-25tea-rose-garden-mug-rug-26

Again, I have used old clothes to make them. I once wore a pink pyjama all covered with doodle hearts. Very February. I think that the fabric makes a pretty cup. Perfect for the morning tea.

I used my mug rug yesterday morning, unto which I placed my cup of morning tea. The morning was very cold and the cup was full, almost to the brim. Then I somehow bumped my leg against the table. Of course, tea spilled all over the mug rug. I hurriedly brought the drenched piece to the kitchen sink and rinsed it. It now looks as before. When you rinse before the tea had a chance to dry, it usually does not stay in the fibre.

I hope you like this new version. If you wish to make a Tea in the Rose Garden mug rug, you can find my pattern in my Craftsy Pattern Store, both in French and in English. Both version has the sentence in French and in English: Tea in the Rose Garden / Le thé dans la roseraie. Whether you wish to take your tea in a French garden or in an English garden. I would drink my tea in any of them, anytime.

Last week, I have added my free patterns and tutorials in my Craftsy Pattern Store and this morning I did the same for this first pattern I made for sale. I am quite happy with this new turn in my crafting and blogging adventure. Fingers crossed!

Tea in the Rose Garden – red rose and purple/white tea cup

An other mug rug! As I promised last week, this one has the theme quilted in English: Tea in the Rose Garden. I think this one is my favorite, with the red rose and the red border. The tea cup is in purple and white like the peach rose version, but in reverse. In fact, those two purple and white fabrics where the top and the bottom of a pyjamas. I think they make handsome tea cups. Just like the old nightgown I used for the blue tea cup version. Flowery fabrics for old-fashion cups. What do you think?

All appliqués were stitched with a blanket stitch. The letters and details (such as the petals) where done with the free motion foot.

To make the back of the mug rugs, I used the same t-shirt fabric as for the rose appliqué. Then I made a simple stitch-in-the-ditch quilting along the borders.

The three mug rugs make a nice set together, I find. The blue one is for my father and the peach one, for my mother. I am keeping the red one. 🙂

This is my second Tea in the Rose Garden mug rug. All in peach, purple and white. Like my yellow rose and blue tea cup version, this one is also in French: Le thé dans la roseraie. The third one I am working on features the English sentence and is in red, purple and white. I will post about it next week.

I really enjoy making these small quilts. And the recycled fabric I am working with (t-shirts, pyjamas, etc.) are so soft to the touch because they went through many washing. A bit stretchy, which can be bothersome in a way, but they do not fray, which compensate. Before stitching the edges of an appliqué, I pin it to the background with many pins, on curves most of all. They keep the appliqué right where I want it and prevent any stretching of the fabric while I am sewing. The background is a thick cotton (from pants) that do not stretch at all. I would not put stretchy fabric on another stretchy fabric. That would be less manageable.

I hope you are enjoying seeing my Tea in the Rose Garden mug rugs because, as I wrote above, I will have an other one to show you next week. I received so many wonderful comments about the yellow rose and blue tea cup mug rug. Thank you!
