Heart in Stripes – Third blue and white heart

Heart in Stripes - francenadeau.comHeart in Stripes - francenadeau.comHeart in Stripes - francenadeau.com

Heart in Stripes in shades of blue and white. This third heart has the same background as the first and the second (new and recycled fabric I used for the the mug rugs with a white foundation). The various textures of the fabrics are on full display here.

I have added a layer of cotton batting inside the heart to be able to use it as a mug rug. It was hand quilted with a variegated King Tut cotton thread. I also played with a piece of ribbon to make a flower (it is supposed to be a rose, just to say).

Heart in Stripes – Second blue and white heart

Heart in Stripes - francenadeau.com

Heart in Stripes in shades of blue and white. Although this second heart has the same background as the first (new and recycled fabric I used for the the mug rugs with a white foundation), it looks darker. This is amazing what a change of color in the details can do to the overall look.

To adorn this heart, I sew by hand a ribbon I bought and stitched a row of “x”. Just as if I was making cross stitching. I was fortunate to have in my embroidery box a color that is almost the same as the ribbon.

A photo tutorial for making Heart in Stripes will be added to my web site as soon as the third heart is photographed.

On a Case – Pattern for mug rug and coaster

This is my latest pattern for mug rugs and coasters. It is based on a famous character. And his not-less-famous companion.

On a Case is made with the applique method. I stitched the appliques by hand, but this could be done with a sewing machine. I made the quilting with a sewing machine. The binding was sewn with a sewing machine on top and by hand on the back. These steps can entirely be made by hand or with a sewing machine.

The pattern is available in my Craftsy Pattern Store. What material did I used to make it? Black fabric for the silhouette, flannel for the scarf, blue fabric for top and back, shirt-like fabric for the binding, batting and sewing thread coordinated to the fabrics. I used old clothes to make these items (polyester), but new fabric can be used (poyester or cotton).

Cat Eyes

Cat Eyes - francenadeau.com

These cat eyes were made using a paper-piecing pattern that was created by Soma Acharya, from Whims and Fancies.

After completing the first eye, I realised that I forgot one piece. It was supposed to be right at the tip of my seam ripper, in the picture below. Hmmm.

Thankfully, I was working with non-fraying fabric (old t-shirts) and was able to add the missing piece without too much trouble.
