Downtown Houses – Block 7 with a pattern

Downtown Houses block 7 - pattern at francenadeau.com

I find this house whimsical with the vine growing on the front door and the roof. Because of this vine, and despite the dark and traditional burgundy bricks of the wall, the house has a joyous air. The garden also reflects this duality between seriousness and amusement: paved but curved walkway, symmetrical but dotty bushes, straight line of flowers along the wall but flowers scattered on the grass.

The pattern is available in French and in English in my Craftsy Pattern Store. This pattern has 7 pages and includes instructions about cutting the appliques, a guide for positioning the appliques, patterns in actual size and pictures showing the embroidery stitches.

House Mini Mini Quilt and Card – Made with Crafted Appliqué

House Mini Quilt and Card - francenadeau.com

In my search of patterns I can use to test the Crafted Appliqué method, I could not pass by the house pattern I have created to make House Keychains.

The house is quite small and was perfect to make a mini mini quilt. Of course, the house does not look exactly the same when lying flat.

I used the background fabric to make the binding and stitched it by hand on the front of the quilt. I use my fabric with the rock motif very sparingly and saved a 1/4″ x 3 1/2″ stripes by cutting on the selvage. Crazy.

While I was stitching the mini mini quilt, it occurred to me that the size was perfect for making a card. Which I have also made using the Crafted Appliqué method. Being able to stitch appliqués rapidly, without having to worry about any subsequent fraying is bliss. (I did not use the method for the background fabrics.)

The background fabrics (green lawn and rocks) come from the fabrics I am using for my Downtown House blocks, while the house itself is made out of old clothes (pants and shirt).

Downtown Houses – Block 6 with a pattern

This house is high in colors. The door and the window frames were carefully decorated. The number of windowpanes add even more richness to the deep red frames. Each window has its elegant flower box. The roof, with its sandy-beige color, contrast beautifully the busy design of the front wall. The minimalist front garden was planned as to not distract the eyes from this magnificence.

Downtown Houses – Block 5 with a pattern

Downtown Houses - Block 5 - pattern available at francenadeau.com

This is the fifth house in my series of Downtown Houses. This one has a rustic look. It is a few centuries old and must have been there when downtown was a mere cluster surrounded by cultivated grounds.
