Small Handbag – Lavender along the fence

Small Handbag with lavender - pattern at francenadeau.comThis is a Small Handbag I have made as a Christmas gift for my mother. The front is decorated with a machine-quilted fence and hand-embroidered lavender. The outside is made from jeans and the inside from Indian cotton.Small Handbag - Lavender along the fence - pattern at francenadeau.comThe back has a tag dangling from the handle. With tiny stems of lavender and the initial of my mother’s first name… Claudine. I was lucky enough to find this ribbon in my basket of bits and pieces. A brown ribbon that coordinates perfectly with the cotton.Small Handbag - side of the bag - pattern at francenadeau.comAnd beautiful wooden beads, also in the same shades of brown. I decorated the tag and the sides of the bag with these. As well as the inside edge of the bag. Below is the lavender motif I have created and have been using for years. On cardboard and on fabric alike.Lavender embroidery on small handbag - France Nadeau

The pattern for this Small Handbag is available in my Craftsy Pattern Store, in French and in English. Please note that the pattern is for the handbag itself and not for the embroidery and the various decorations, although I indicate in the pattern when the embellishments should be added. Like quilting, embroidery, ribbons and beads.

Little blue flowers cascading over the front of the small handbag. Blue petals growing along pale-green stems, passing over a fence in order to adorn both sides with its delicate beauty.

A Pattern for My Small Handbags

Small handbags - sewing pattern at francenadeau.com

I have just published a pattern for the small handbag I have been making repeatedly for the last year. I wrote a pattern in English and a pattern in French. Both versions are available in my Craftsy Pattern Store. I have added, below, links to the posts I have written about my various small handbags.

This bag is quite versatile and not at all bulky. You can use new or recycled fabric. Both work well. You can personalised this bag with a tag, an antique brooch, ribons, beads, embroidery, etc. The possibilities are infinite. Depending on the fabric you choose, it can be a classic, a chic, a casual or a whimsical bag. The choice is yours!

Please note that this pattern is for the bag itself and the tag and not for the various decorations you can see in the pictures (embroidery, ribbon, beads, etc.).

This pattern has 8 pages and includes detailed instructions , schemas and pictures (limited to pages 1,2 and 8 for easier printing).

In this pattern, I give instructions for two versions of the bag: regular or patchwork. I also explain three different ways for making the handles.

I will show you a few more small handbags during the following weeks. Most of those I have sewn were birthday or Christmas gifts. I kept a few for myself, though. I often use them to store small projects, like crochet, knitting, hexagons and embroidery. But when I am in need of a small handbag to go out, I have a few to choose from. How great is that?

Blue Jeans Small Handbags

I have sewn two more small handbags. Some of you may think: “Oh, no. Not again!”. But some of you may be interested in seeing them, as they look different from those I posted about during the last two months (Three Bags, One PatternA Bag for a Grandmother and Green Flower Bag).

They are entirely made from old jeans. But they are not monochrome as I used many various legs (jeans’ legs, of course): regular blue, pale blue, washed-too-many-times blue, grey and black.

The pink stitches, the pink threads attaching the tags and the beads add a feminine touch to a somewhat neutral fabric. And the inside of the bags sports a little pocket. (Does this paragraph sounds like an ad to you too?)

Hopefully, you were interested in seeing those two small handbags. Thank you for your visit,
