I made those two mini mini quilts during the Make Modern Magazine challenge on Instagram (#miniminiquilt), using the rose pattern that is part of my Tea in the Rose Garden Mug Rug.
To make those two little pieces, I went through my pile of polyester Halloween costumes that I made years ago for my two sons when they where younger. Three colors were particularly suitable for flowers (green, red and yellow). The two backgrounds are 100% cotton (scraps from my Downtown House blocks). Batting scraps are perfect for small projects like this one. The appliqués were stitched after assembling the sandwich, through all three layers. This is what I call lazy quilting. 😉
The binding was made with the back fabric and sewn by hand. You can find my tutorial on how I do this right here (in French and in English).
As this picture announces it, I used Lara’s Crafted Appliqué method. With this method, sewing the little pieces was very easy. It was particularly helpful with the stems and the little leaves under the petals. Just follow the link if you wish to learn more about it.
