Maple Leaf Quilt and Card – Made with Crafted Appliqué

This is a small quilt: 7″ x 7″. And a coordinated card. For the appliqués, i.e. the maple leaves, I have used Lara’s Crafted Appliqué method (#craftedapplique).

I have used 100% quilting cotton for these two projects. With Crafted Appliqué, fabrics do not fray. Which is why I was able to stitch along the edges of the leaves with a straight stitch (only once and with golden metallic thread). Being a small quilt, I made a small quilting effort.

For the card, I decided to add veins inside the leaf. I could not resist using more of that golden metallic thread. The red stripes are selvages from the red fabric of the quilt.

I find they make a gorgeous pair, if I may say so.

For the binding, I used the back fabric and sew it on the front by hands. I made my special corners. You can find my tutorial on how I use the back fabric of a quilt to make the binding and those corners here (in French and in English).

  1. France, your little mini maple leaf quilt and matching card are delightful! Such a pretty leaf shape and your decorative stitching adds a sweet touch. The card looks like it would also make a great needle book. Thank you for sharing more projects using the crafted applique method. You have been coming up with such wonderful ideas! I like the way you do your binding corners by the way.

    • Thank you very much, Lara! That’s a good idea, for the needlebook. But I don’t have the card anymore. It was sent in the mail for Father’s Day, which is today. I’ll have more projects to share in the following weeks, all made with your fantastic Crafted Appliqué method. 🙂
