Daisies and Leaves

One week ago, I saw on Pinterest a picture of beautiful daisies and leaves decorating a gift package. I followed the link and that brought me to a beautiful blog called Daisy Cottage Design, featuring lovely crochet projects (the name itself is quite lovely!). And, oh goodness!, there is a tutorial for making those wrapping decorations (DIY Floral Gift Wrap). It only took me a few seconds to decide that this would be what I would be working on during the following days. I had finished my Narcissus Baby Blanket and was in need of a new crochet project. Something completely different and fun.

I went to my yarn basket and found scraps in red and grey. The daisy is very fast to crochet and I had a few done in no time. I wanted more daisies and more colors. So I made a few in yellow. But that was not enough. Unfortunately, I had by then run out of my scraps suitable for flowers and didn’t have any for the leaves. I was starting to plan a trip to the yarn store when I remembered the two sweaters I had knitted a few years ago and that were now two small for my sons. I started unraveling them. As I mentioned in my post about my Picot Fingerless Gloves, I love recycling yarn and the one I used for those sweaters was perfect for daisies.

That was a very fun project and I know that I will make daisies again when I need to decorate a package for someone special.

Sleeves from old sweaters I knitted for my sons and that were washed many, many times, as we can see on this picture.

I found matching buttons in my button box.

The daisies make beautiful tags.

Of course, they are quite pretty on a box.

They would be perfect when giving a quilt! No box or paper needed in that case.

I know there are not many grey flowers in nature but I just like them with their navy/gold centre.

They are quite sophisticated around a rolled sheet of paper.

    • Those flowers were so easy to do. While working on them I thought about all the ways they could be used. I even found more ways after I published my post. I’m happy that you and others like the grey flowers. Thank you!
